Purchased two of these units, one for my car and one for my Girlfriends car.
As other reviews have pointed out, the instructions for this unit are vague at best, you have to be a dealer to log into avitals site in order to get any help and the instructions that come with it do not tell you how to program the various features correctly, they leave out a step, I had to do a google search and scroll through a forum to find out the correct way.
the unit is nice and compact and the connectors that go to it are decent quality, not great but good. The hood pin switch and toggle cut off switch are pretty cheesy looking, but you can either omit them or come up with a nicer looking solution For a unit of this price it has tons of features and is very versatile, However it requires a fairly good understanding of automotive electrical systems and has no factory support for individuals.

The correct way to program the unit (this will make sense after you read the instructions that come with the unit):
turn ignition on then off.
hold down program button, release the button after 1 horn beep for menu 1 continue holding it and it will beep the horn twice for menu 2 and release it, if you don't release it then it will exit program mode and beep 3 times.
then press the program button the number of times for the option you want to change in that menu then press the button one more time and hold it.
use the key fob to change the option and the horn will beep corresponding with the option you have selected. use the lock button for option 1 press the unlock button to choose option 2 or option 3, when you are done choosing let go of the program button.
The instructions say that you can then choose another option to change by pressing the program button the number of times necessary for that option, but I found that wasn't the case, I had to exit program mode each time by turning the key forward, then re-enter program mode and change the next option.

good luck I hope this helps someone else.

5Great value for the price  Dec 27, 2010 By Nate
The avital 4103 is the perfect kit for those who want remote start with keyless entry or to replaced the factory keyless entry and add remotes start. It is a simple remote start system with nothing to fancy. The installation instructions were limited, but only because they were intended for a professional (not for the amature) As an automotive technician i had no problems with the install. However the virtual tach did not work on my vehicle, so a tach wire hook-up was needed. Over all it has been working perfectly and my wife loves it. I would recommend this kit to anyone as long as it is installed professionally.

You get what you pay for cheap. This was a gift for my Daughter-in-law at Christmas. She was real happy, until she tried to have it installed. Every place she went wanted to charge a arm and a leg or said the item was not worth installing, because of defects with the alarm going off. So CAUTION you get what you pay for. Chicago, Il.
