Waste of time and money Jun 26, 2007
By Sergey Trofimovsky
"troff"
The transmitter requires external power supply which is not included, though product description forgets to state that. I wanted to order power supply for extra money but couldn't find one. I even couldn't return it, because ANTonline didn't authorize return, but this is another story :-)

If I could give zero stars I would Aug 28, 2008
By Liane Gentry Skye, The description for this product, both on the Amex website who subcontracted amazon to send these in exchange for rewards points, and on amazon is inaccurate. These headphones are meant for *specific boss hardware (car stereos)* and are not adaptable to any *other* piece of equipment. The wireless transmitter requires a power supply, not included and not available
Even the print on the product's boxes is misleading, leading one to believe the headphones compatible with video game consoles. The above review was right on the money. Buyer beware. I'm appalled that this product is listed as an amazon prime product. And unless I can figure out how to get a points reimbursement to amex, I can't even return them. Worse, I now have two sets of them.

Best product for the price! Jan 29, 2009
By Kendra Young These headphones worked great, right out of the box. They work with the existing transmitter that we have in our vehicle. They are also very sturdy, and hold up well to the abuse our 3 and 7 year olds put out. Very best product for the price.

I knew what I was getting. And how to use it. Apr 14, 2009
By Paul Brown The negative reviews above are based on ignorance. This product is intended to be used in a vehicle. All car electronics are sold this way as they are intended to be connected to the vehicle's electrical system. If you know what you're getting and how to use it, this product fits the bill quite nicely.
As it happens, I didn't want to use this in my vehicle. I connected it to a 12-volt power supply I had sitting in my closet and my kids use it on the computer. Now they can play their online games and watch movies without bugging me and the missus. Of course, I can still easily use it in my vehicle should I choose to do so.
The headphones are a bit flimsy but I didn't expect much for the price. This is the only reason I didn't award 5 out of 5. Research indicates that replacing the headphones when they eventually break will not be difficult or costly (Wal Mart sells a kid-friendly set -- perhaps a bit more durable -- for ~$25, for instance).
The headphones use 2-AAA batteries in each set. The kids naturally forget to turn them off when they're done using them. The batteries haven't died yet -- it's been 3 weeks -- but when they eventually do I'll probably replace them with NiMH rechargeables.
Sound quality is a bit lacking; I assume that's due to the limited bandwidth offered by infrared. I also have a pair of Bluetooth wireless headphones (Logitech FreePulse) and they have much better frequency response but even they aren't quite as good as wired. You have to expect a trade-off for going wireless, of course. For the kids' needs it's more than adequate.
Overall, if your expectations are realistic, there is no reason this product shouldn't be more than satisfactory.

Excellent headsets for the price Jun 14, 2011
By H. Ong Contrary to what the product description states, I bought these headsets for home use, in addition to the Pyle PLVWH6 Dual Wireless IR headphones being sold at Amazon. I needed 2 sets of IR headsets for different locations, so I took the opportunity to compare both similarly-priced brands. My headsets were purchased more than a year ago.
The Pyle headsets can be seen here: PYLE PLVWH6 Dual Wireless IR Mobile Video Stereo Headphones with Transmitter
Not only were both pairs of headphones compatible with each others' IR transmitters, the IR transmitter I received for both brands were entirely identical -- with only the printed brand name changed. Looking at this product's customer image right now, it seems that they've changed the IR transmitter's housing to make it look different. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if this unit's transmitter works with other China-made headsets.
As this doesn't come with a power adapter, for home or office use, you will need to buy a multi-voltage DC adapter, set the adapter to 12V, cut the power cord and expose a good deal of wire, and splice the ends (better to solder then wrap multiple times with electrical tape) to the power cables of the IR transmitter. While this may sound intimidating to some, in practice, this is extremely simple to do.
In terms of sound quality, I found the bass slightly better on these headsets than Pyle's offering. Clarity was comparable between both brands. If you're not picky, you won't even be able to tell the difference between both headsets. The headsets are relatively comfortable to wear, whereas the material that the Pyle headsets used was somewhat rough on the ears.
Overall, I prefer Boss' headsets not only because of (in my opinion) the minimally better sound performance, but because they're significantly cheaper than Pyle's, which is as of this writing, are $17 more expensive than Boss' headsets. Why pay more for basically the same thing?
While I haven't been able to test the maximum distance between the headsets and the IR transmitter, my working distance is often between 12-16 feet. In over a year's time of ownership, I've experienced no major issues with this product. Line of sight between the headsets and the IR transmitter is needed for uninterrupted sound, and the transmitter has a wide angle of tolerance. The headsets require 2 AAA batteries. I've use them an average of 3-4 times a month, between 30 minutes to an hour and a half each time, and have not had to change the eneloops I've put in them for more than a year so far.
My only complaint with these headsets is that the thick cushion material wrapped around the earmuffs seems to be coming off one of the headsets. I usually get a laminated ID or credit card and insert it into the gap (see manborn "frank"'s 2nd customer image on this page for a possibly clearer idea of the gap I'm referring to) several times in order to nudge the wrap back into place. Overall, I'm a very satisfied owner of these headsets.
