5Good product + good price = great value  Nov 07, 2011 By David Haan
I wish I would have upgraded my stock stereo long before now. The biggest benefit is the added safety of not being distracted any longer by looking at or being tempted to look at my iPhone while driving.

This unit controls your iPhone (music, podcasts, etc), controls Pandora from your iPhone, and allows you to place calls. It was one of the least expensive units that did all three. It seems most manufacturers make you choose between bluetooth calls and Pandora, or spend $400+.

In terms of getting the data from your phone to the stereo, you can either stream wirelessly (bluetooth adapter incuded) or plug in. If you plug in you get the benefit of being able to control your playlists and access your phonebook from the stereo without looking at your phone. My wife says the call quality is just as good as the ear-mounted bluetooth unit I was using before. Be warned there is a microphone and wire you need to deal with in order to make calls.

I read other complaints about the intuitive-ness of the buttons. I agree, but you can't have everything in a 1-DIN unit. If you want screen size for display, then you have to make room by shrinking buttons. Or... choose a 2-DIN model. You will need to read the owner's manual before becoming savvy in controlling this stereo.

I have a 2001 Honda Accord and did the install myself, and I'm no expert. Amazon.com had the adapter plate and wiring harness for my vehicle, which ran another $15-20. I called a local place and they wanted $85 for install and another $50 in parts. There are plenty of online sites available with installation instructions for your make, model, and year of vehicle. I also cut a hole in the adapter tray beneath the stereo (because it's a 1-DIN stereo) to wire my iPhone and for the bluetooth microphone wire.

4Very good deal.  Nov 14, 2011 By Denny Allen Marshall "new and better"
I had purchased a Kenwood KDC-BT948HD from Hookedontronics that ended up a bust. It stopped charging my iphone, so I went for this JVC. I rarely used the HD radio on my other radio, so I figured I didn't need that feature. This JVC does not feel cheap. The buttons however are small. I wish the audio functions were easier to get to. You have to hold down the menu then toggle through a list to adjust the eq and bass controls. The eq and bass controls do allow for a good bit of fine tuning to your system though. All in all I'm happy with my purchase. I saved $100 from the radio I purchased before this one. Also, with this jvc bluetooth, you can stream music. You could not do this with the Kenwood.

I will never buy from Hookedontronics again. I returned the radio and they admitted it was faulty, then said they were sending it to their shop for repairs and that it would take two weeks. Well I thought that was crap and that they should just send me a new one, but I waited anyways. Two weeks go by and I email again and they say it's still in the "shop" and they would let me know when it was done. Are you kidding me? So I contacted Amazon and they refunded me my money. At least Amazon fixed the problem.

5Great features, great sound, great price  Jan 18, 2012 By Ronald G. Gillis "Ron Gillis"
I think you will struggle to find another in dash unit that has the same amount of features with the same quality for this price. Bluetooth works amazingly clear, and setup was easy. Sound quality is very good.

4Careful if you have polarized sunglasses  Jan 14, 2012 By FernoUMR
Feature-wise, there's nothing to complain about. I spent quite a while researching bluetooth-enabled head unit before choosing the JVC KDR-820BT. It installed into my 2002 Ford F-150 with no problems (I already had a wiring harness adaptor and DIN mount kit from a previous Kenwood). Here are a few things that aren't in the manual:

First, if you wear polarized sunglasses, this head unit may cause problems. As you know, polarization blocks all light that isn't of a certain orientation to the lense (this is how they reduce glare). Well, the unit's LCD has a polarization is precisely opposite of my lenses. So, when I look at the screen, it's completely black. I have to rotate my head a bit (imagine a dog cocking its head at you) in order to see it. I do not know if all polarized lenses have the same orientation, though I suspect this is the case.

Secondly, there is no pause functionality when playing music from the iPhone 4S via BT. I have no idea how a head unit that advertises AVCRP 1.3 gets away with this. It can do skip, rewind/ffwd, show the song information, etc, but can't pause? Surely I'm missing something--but I can't figure it out.

Lastly, it takes about 30 seconds when switching to an iPhone source (either via USB or BT) before you can start playing. During this time, the head unit is reading the song information, etc. May or may not be an issue for you.

5Bluetooth works great, great adjustable color display, works with Droid X.  Jan 26, 2012 By gadget guy on a budget
Simple to use Bluetooth with phone. Answer and make calls, play music from music player, internet radio or almost any audio from phone.

Color display is awesome. You can mach it to almost any dash display and can change it for incoming phone calls. My dash is light green, matched it perfectly and I make it light up red for incoming calls.

It works with Droid X. I bought a different Bluetooth stereo that I found out the hard that it would work with almost any phone except Droid X.

Simple and intuitive buttons on stereo. Simple and easy to use menu if you follow instructions with the stereo. Makes my 15 year old factory speakers sound like a new car. So far so very good!!

One tip I found when installing new stereos to old cars that most instructions forget to mention. Power antenna wire must be hooked up even if you do not have power antenna option. You will get no sound otherwise.
