1If amazon had zero stars...  Apr 24, 2011 By Clint Modien
Where do I start... picked this up at best buy... had it installed by the guys there... they sucked but that's not what this review is about.

Firstly... the is my first review ever... I'm writing this because I don't want anyone else to buy this pos.

For $1200 it better "work"

1. It locked up 1 day after getting it.
2. It became super sluggish before it locked up.
3. The manual said the only way to fix it after a lock up was to hit the reset button in the bottom left corner. This reset the whole receiver to factory defaults. (omg i want to punch someone)
4. The DSP sounds horrible compared to how it sounds when I bypass it.

Kenwood messed this up big time... here's what probably happened.

1. they needed to meet a deadline to have the features complete
2. there wasn't enough time to optimize the features
3. they called it "complete" and shipped it with the worst quality ever

I'll never buy a kenwood receiver again. Their commitment to quality is non existant.

1So much potential Software fails it  May 26, 2011 By Lisa
Bought the DNX7180 from Best Buy.. They said it was the newest and best, I bit...
Okay had to add camera, add Sat radio, add sterring, add HD rec, add longer BT cable.. So be prepared this unit needs much to make even half of the icons do anything.
If you dont have an Iphone or Ipod about 1/3 of the rest of the icons do nothing. They should have made this being 2001 model not only for use with Apple OS but with Android. So Im down to 1/4 of the icons working now but whatever. Maybe an update to the rec will make it more universal or maybe they havea deal with Apple I dont know.
Okay the Positives.. Nice size screen, Bright easy to read, Nice remote, icons are straight forward, drag and drop top three. Garmin Nav nice. Lifetime Navtrafix five stars..
Now the bad.. The more you use it seems the slower it gets. Go seep into to sub menus gets really laggy.
Make a phone call and use the dialer on screen? Ya if you have several mins. The delay when pushing a number and it going on screen saying yes thats a 7 is from the 1970's WAY too much lag in phone interface. Big screen skinny little keys as well made for girl fingers for sure.
Got a great feature! Split screen! Well its about as useless as 8 megs of ram in a computer. I finally and I mean finally figured out how to put the icon menu on the other side but it does nothing really. I have nav on one side ond click Sirrius radio it turns purple thats it lol. The controlls you get on the split screen are Band FF and RR.. NO presets WOW major flaw.Nothing else no mater what radio interface you use. Okay a call comes in Split screen be cool! Well the name and number are in font size 2pt. And if the contact is in your phone book which Dl to the unit shouldnt it display it in the neat split screen??? Sat radio Does not show channel logos like my old Pioneer AVICN1 did 10 years ago lol. Got a split screen now go to "where to" Navigate GL says ready to navigate but wont take you to the where to screen even if you go to main menu. Be fast like 1 second you may get a shot if the unit doesnt freeze first. If you connect your smart phone to it will not treat it as a USB or mass storage device to take pictures off and move to unit or anything else...
Hands free calling I hear them good they say it sounds like a wind tunnel, adjusted mic several times. This is in a BMW should have no noise..Did I mention the LAG I dont know if they didnt put enough memory or what but it lags on much much stuff. When you hit the arrow to go deep into munu items dialing prety much all.
I think the unit has GREAT potential. ITs all there just needs a MAJOR software update. I think this may have been rushed out the door. I had some high hopes and feel if they dont patch this soon I will be taking it back.
BTW do not reset if you can help it! ALL your settings go by by, Bad thing is its so buggy and freezes and laggy it almost needs a reset from time to time.
Sorry to be a downer but I can see the potential here and I think the software guys blew it. IT can be fixed and they can add features to make the icons that we dont use gone and make the Iphone Ipod ones work with other devices. FIX the split screen! We need more than Band and FF RR Use that spit screen for everything not just a icon that turns purple lol. I cant even tell whats on Sat radio the wording is soo small lol .

1Terrible.  Nov 11, 2011 By guar
I called Kenwood and they said a 1.5 second delay before the interface even responds to your action is normal. Poor design if they feel that way. The unit is too slow to even use. I'll be selling this and buying a Pioneer. I will never buy a Kenwood ever again after this experience. Crutchfield was very helpful in putting me in touch with the right people, who unfortunately, were not able to help (Kenwood). The buttons on the unit are too small / part of the screen and it's impossible to tell what you hit because of the 1.5 second delay before it even starts processing. Stay far away.

1It probably won't work a year from now and Garmin knows it  Jan 06, 2012 By The Sad Truth
I contacted Garmin to find out which of their new GPS units would continue to work even after LightSquared starts broadcasting broadband transmissions like they are getting ready to do right now, and Garmin customer service didn't have enough confidence in any of their currently manufactured GPS units to pomise me they would work a year from now.

Simply put this is a warning, if you buy a Garmin GPS unit now, even Garmin thinks it might not work a year from now and you will have to buy a new one that will at that time.

Don't believe me, ask Garmin customer service to make that promise to you in writing, THEY WON'T.

Instead they will send you links to the ongoing Lightsquared activities, but they will not tell you that the units they sell today will work a year from now.

Don't buy one until they can tell you it'll work a year from now.
