5Great replacement Receiver  Nov 09, 2011 By P. Henderson "Part time gaming sniper"
After using this new receiver for a couple of months, I like it so much I purchased another for our other car. I love the fact that it has a clock in the display, most aftermarket head units do not. And best of all, you can either let it cycle through the various colors on the display, or select a specific one to match the rest of your dash. Oh, and it sounds great, regardless the source, my MP3s on a flash drive, my MP3 player, or CD. I would recommend this head unit to anyone whose vehicle need a double-DIN sized unit.

4Almost PERFECT for my 2002 Honda CR-V!  May 26, 2011 By amazoncustomer
The unit looks REALLY nice inside my CR-V, however there was no provided side brackets to mount it correctly into the dashboard. But since every car model is different anyway so I can't complain about this. I had to use the my CR-V's factory bracket, and it turned out OK!

PROS:
1. Sleek design. Looks REALLY NICE inside my car. Black color match with my black interior.
2. Aux + USB input. These 2 are the main reason I replace the factory unit in the first place. I listen to my music mainly from my cell phone, so this is a BIG PLUS.
3. Multiple customizable screen light color to match with your car interior color. (mine is orange). You can switch to cycle rainbow colors or just one stationary color of your choice.
(*Update: There's a small software bug issue here. No matter what color you set it to, it will automatically reset to default rainbow every time you start your car. To fix this, you have to download the software update version available on Kenwood main website. Download it and copy it into a flash drive. Then plug it into the unit and follow the enclosed instruction to update and fix this rainbow issue.)

CONS:
1. No correct bracket for my car model. (using the factory's brackets would 80% fix this)
2. No touchscreen
3. Have to cut the outer edge frame to fit into the small gap between the unit and my dashboard opening. No big problem here, but I don't know what tools to use when they say "cut" this piece of hard plastic. (gonna do this part tomorrow, I'll update this review when it turns out good)

UPDATE: I used my dad's wood table saw machine to cut this plastic piece of rectangle outer frame (not the right tool, but I had nothing else). Cutting it was a bizarre. The piece tended to melt at some parts as the saw accommodates heat. As the result, the piece was not evenly sawed. The surface of the piece got scratched as I slided it across the saw table surface. Then I had to use sand paper to sand off the rough edges. However, final result is that I could finally fit it into my dashboard perfectly. About the scratched surface, I think I'm gonna have to buy a black spray paint bottle to spray it. 4* for this product

2Disppointing  Aug 08, 2011 By Ken Bos "Rock It Psi Un Tist"
Kenwood dpx308u car stereo review

First off I should say that the sound quality was excellent. It is good looking, and replaced my broken original equipment quite well. There were a few other things that I wish I would have known before I purchased the unit however.

Operation was OK but not stellar. Each button has multiple functions and it can be confusing as to what button to push to do what operation. For instance, push the number 6 radio button to pause a cd. This brings back memories of the ever popular VCR blinking 12:00 because no one can remember how to set the clock LOL. The volume knob also has multiple functions, if you push it in, so be careful when hitting a bump while adjusting the volume.

Straight out of the box there was a problem that needed to be fixed. The color select would not work if the unit was powered off. It reverted to cycling thru all the colors. After researching on the internet I found that I needed to perform a flash upgrade. I downloaded the file and performed the upgrade and it said it was upgraded. But the problem still existed. More research and I find out that you need to do a reset in order for the upgrade to actually work. OK finally I have the color issue resolved.

So next I purchase a 64 Gig USB flash drive to put all of my MP3 collection on it. I have about 40 Gig of music. After a few days I determine that it is not reading all of the files and folders. I send several emails off to Kenwood with no real answer. I ask Lexar if the problem could be their unit. Lexar says they will replace the USB no problem. Meanwhile I find out from Kenwood after my 8th email to them that the max number of folders per USB device is 255 total. I sort my music the same way everyone I know does. I have about 200 artists with 1 to 12 albums(folders) in each. I am way over the 255 limit!

Apparently many units have this limitation. Kenwood says I can reorganize my music so that I have less than 255 folders max. WTF? I am not interested in reorganizing my filing system. I really am disappointed that I didn't know these limitations before I purchased the unit. I have invested far too much time into getting the thing working to a level that is under my expectaions.

So summarizing, if you don't mind upgrading the flash, remembering strange button sequences for operation and you only have 255 folders max per USB stick, then this may be the unit for you.
