5Must Have Adapter for HD Radio Installs  Jan 26, 2008 By Roberto Acosta
This adapter provided a clean solution for my DIY project to install an HD radio kit in my car. Most car audio head units (mine included) do not have the capability to deactivate the internal AM/FM tuner after installing a compatible HD radio kit. Installing a HD radio kit requires use of the vehicle antenna--the problem is there is one antenna connection and two tuners. This kit readily enables you to have both tuners working. There are several reasons why: (1) avoids the "dead" source on your head unit (static noise), (2) enables one to compare station and tuner quality (internal AM/FM vs. the HD unit), (3) avoids "...there's something wrong with your radio" when someone else drives your vehicle, and (4) allow you to go back to regular AM/FM on your favorite station because sometimes the regular (non HD) audio may sound better than the HD version depending on the CODEC being used by the radio station. Depending on your area radio stations, HD radio can sound anywhere from near CD quality to very bad MP3 sound. The Metra 40-UV44 adapter let's you enjoy the best of both worlds and is one I consider a must have adapter if your car audio system does not allow you to deactivate the internal tuner.

5Get HD Radio and your regular AM/FM radio in your car  Jan 03, 2010 By Dean!
In addition to this item, I also purchased the female to female adapter made by the same company which I am also very pleased with.

I want to clarify that I am using this in my car and I'm calling it an FM-antenna y-adapter for a car.

I purchased this because I have a portable MP3 player (Zune) that has HD radio (with a docking base I velcro'd inside the car) and a regular car radio.

I was in a rock/hard place, because I wanted to sometimes listen to the MP3 player and sometimes the car radio. Also, sometimes I take my MP3 player with me and simply forget to put it back in the car - therefore I need radio reception for both devices.

This car antenna y-adapter fit the bill perfectly and was reasonably priced. I was going to DIY and make my own y-adapter, but car antennas use a solid/stiff coaxial cable type wire which isn't the greatest for splicing.

I'm glad I came across this on Amazon and hopefully this review will have the keywords you need to find it too. (Who knew that "Motorola" is the same as a car antenna??)

5Radio Antenna Y-Adapter  Mar 17, 2012 By Steve
I bought a portable HD radio to use in my car or at home. I felt that the best way to get an antenna connection in my car was to split the antenna connection to my car radio so that I could also connect it to my portable HD radio.

I bought this Y-Adapter before I received the HD radio in the mail. I have a 2010 Ford Taurus and learned when I tried to connect the HD radio that I would have to take the dash panel nearly completely apart just to connect this Y-Adapter to the antenna cable.

I decided against it. The Y-Adapter looks to be very well built and I am sure that it works just fine. However, I have not tested it and probably never will.

Instead, I use a portable antenna that I bought. Although I would prefer to use the regular car antenna, the portable antenna works well enough to suit me.

5Works as advertised.  Oct 22, 2011 By hitec
It works just like it is supposed to. Not much to talk about. It is just a Y adapter to allow 2 receivers for one antenna.

5Amust for HD Radios  May 02, 2010 By Alexander Rojas
If your purchasing a head unit that uses a seperate module for HD radio then this wire is a must. You will have a hard time with the switching of Analog and digital with this cable. This cable is also necessary if you plan to use the near defunct MSN Direct service available on certain high-end head units. Overall a great deal on a necessary item here on Amazon.
