Excellent Dash Kit!!!! Oct 08, 2010
By BigJim I put it in my 07' taurus. My car came with a cassette deck, so I put a Metra 99-5717 Taurus/Sable 04-07 Dash kit in so I could listen to my CD's. I also used a Pioneer DEH-1200MP CD Receiver with MP3/WMA Playback and Remote Control. It was kind of a hastle running the wire harnesss back to the trunk, but all the color coded wires matched up perfect! This kit also has the airbag light in it!

A Great Solution. Apr 10, 2011

So I purchased this kit for my wife's '07 Taurus. She has a long commute and enjoys listening to podcasts and audiobooks via her mp3 player. Previously, I'd been using the PIE adapter that is so very popular. You can see it here:

However, I had TWO of these units fail on me. On both units, one of the channels just quit working. Crutchfield wouldn't replace them, as there is only a 90 day warranty on them. So I went in search of a more permanent and reliable solution.
Thus, I found myself looking at the Metra kit. I picked up for what I think is a good price (under $70) and I had some gift cards for Best Buy leftover from Christmas so I went online and picked up a relatively low-end Pioneer Head Unit that has an AUX input on the front plate and rear RCA inputs.
The install went very easily, make sure you have the loop things for pulling out the stock head unit. Running the wires to the trunk was not hard at all, and it was actually very easy installing the Pioneer HU into the Metra unit since it was all out of the car when you do it. The overall fit is very snug and tight in the car, and it all works very well. The plastic its made of doesn't match the original unit, but then, I wasn't expecting a beautiful amazing piece of equipment. I wanted functional, and it is.
Overall, I would readily recommend the Metra Kit to ANYONE with a Taurus / Sable along with an affordable aftermarket head unit. In the end, its reliable money well spent.

Fits '04 Taurus Feb 09, 2012
By Carl Wrobel It's a lot of work, comparatively speaking, to upgrade the head unit in a Taurus, and you need one of these to do it. Plastic is very thick and not brittle. Finish is ok, hence four stars (as the stuck-on labels look cheap), but the fit is on. I used the DIN cage at first but my head unit sat a little further in on the left, so I switched to the more sturdy and symmetrical ISO mount method, where the head unit is fastened with screws through mounting tabs into the sides.
Note: The Taurus has it's amplifier and tuner mounted in the trunk under the lining on the driver-side wheel well. This kit contains a very long harness to run under your rear seat, kick plates, and dash. I used blue butt splices to connect to the harness on the head. Makes for a lengthy, more advanced install.
Easy enough for inexperienced car person Jan 13, 2012
By Moe Girl This kit was really helpful for installing a CD player into my Ford Taurus 2005. I did have the help of my boyfriend, but I think that I could have done it on my own if need be. Something I wish I had known better before getting this kit is that it has really long wires that come with it that you connect to your CD player (solder them or use wire connectors) and you really do need to thread them all the way back to the receiver in your trunk. You can't just connect it to the factory connectors - they aren't made like that. So I don't have the wires completely tucked out of sight yet, but the kit works well and matches the inside of my car. The button for the rear defrost is in a slightly different place, but it works just as well. Also, make sure the CD player that you get is not very deep. There isn't a lot of room in there. My CD player was too long and it sticks out just a little bit. This is not a fault of the makers of this kit - it is a problem with the way the Ford of this (these) years were made. I have heard that you can get a CD player that is shallow enough, but I am happy with mine, I don't mind that it sticks out a little, and my boyfriend claims he can work something out so it looks a little more cosmetically appealing. You will also additionally want to get the dash removal keys (the name is something like that) for removing the factory made part in the dash as well as inserting and removing this dash kit as necessary.
