5Amazing little setup  Aug 26, 2008 By J. Nash "Techie"
UPDATED 2/5/12:

A few words of advice before you get started with your install. One thing I can not stress enough, find the wiring diagram for your car. You can find or ask for them from most reputable sellers or the site the12volt.com. Now that you have your wiring diagram DO NOT trust it. Test every wire with a multimeter before you connect to it. When connecting to it DO NOT use quick connects. If your soldering skills really are that bad (you probably shouldn't be installing this yourself), BUT you could pick up some posi-taps. I don't use them, but they are the best of the best when it comes to connecting to wires without soldering

The newer your car, the easier the install will be. The bypass modules are doing more and more of the work these days. The last install I did on a 2008 Saab 9-7x was a dream. I have installed this on 4 cars now over the last 4 years and I have to recommend Fortin bypass modules over their DEI counterparts. The Fortin ones made my install very enjoyable, not that the DEI's were bad, they just had a few bugs and less features than the Fortin I used. Also, the remote redesigns of both the 1 way and 2 way remotes show me that Scytek actually cares about people using their products. I love the new remotes over their old ones and especially love them over their terrible Viper counterparts.

Pro's: This product is amazing. I did the installs myself in about 5 hours (soldering 20 wires and a wiring diagram to help locate wires). It has full feedback of a command you sent to your car, could it be to start it, lock it, unlock it, etc... it will let you know if your car received the command or not. This alarm will page my remote up to a 1/4 mile away with 0 line of site. The distance and functionality actually allowed me to get out to my car the second someone slammed their door into it. This setup is priceless, I will be installing this on all my families cars when I get the time. Not to mention the remote replacement costs are very cheap. At $50 for the replacement pagers and $20 for the simple remotes, you can't go wrong with this system.

Con's: It has been set off by thunder and high winds (I don't even install the shock sensor anymore). Pager only survives 6 or 8 falls until you need to replace it. Get a case for the pager remote, you won't regret it. I have come across a few small issues, they actually both happened on the same car and one may have caused the other. The first problem, the actual alarm/starter module died about a year into install. The starter relay failed. Because I installed it myself, I had no warranty from the company. I had issues finding the actual relay to solder back onto the board, but I found the entire system for $80 with the bonus of two more 1-way remotes, and an extra replacement siren. Swapped the module out, reprogrammed the remote, and I was good to go in 20 minutes. The second problem GET YOURSELF HIGHER QUALITY FUSES. The lower quality fuses that came with this system never fit quite right into the fuse holders causing intermittent starts on one of my cars (probably the reason my starter relay died, surging intermittent power). It took me a month to figure out the exact cause. The last install I did and all future installs I do for friends, I will be using the same system and I will spend the extra $4 on new fuses.

4i recommend it  Aug 16, 2009 By Courtney Austin "caustin45240"
this is a pretty good alarm,it came with everything it was susposed to.just dont buy a motion sensor because this alarm triggers it constantly.i may buy the same alarm again..

4The product itself is good so far  Mar 19, 2011 By Zach
I searched and reviewed numerous products before I finally settled on this one. This product fit all of my needs and more. And for the price it was hard to beat. Overall I am satisfied with the product and so far it is working perfectly. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because of lack of information. I guess I should say the information I needed was a little more time consuming to come by than I would have liked. It would have been nice if Amazon would have more information for installing remote starts for specific vehicles. Getting information from Scytec doesn't work either. I had to search the internet for all the information that I needed. I found the information that I needed from commandocaralarms.com, YouTube, and caralarmpros.com. Another thing I will add is be prepared before you do your install. There is a lot of information on YouTube to help you prepare. I have an electronics/electrical background so I had all the tools and was comfortable with schematics and soldering. Installing a remote start/car alarm is not for ametuers but I guess it would be a learning experience, (good or bad). I installed this on my 2003 Dodge Dakota. All the wires were easy to get to, (with direction), but you need to become a contortionist to get the control unit tucked away in a good spot. Again I am happy with the product and Amazon.com's good variety.

3does what i need  Dec 15, 2010 By Igor
Installed the product on 2004 Corolla. Installation took several hours spread over several weekends. It was my first time installing a remote starter so I expected it. It does what I need - starts the car in cold weather (it is like 8 right now). I mentioned it because some reviews on other sites indicate there were issues with ScyTek in colder weather. Range is decent. Didn't have a chance to test 2500 ft in the line of sight but was able to start from like 1000ft when the car was behind some houses. Didn't install all security features, just don't need them. Doors lock/unlock and panic works though. Range is much more than factory remote. I'm using it in tachless mode. Had to extend cranking time to "extended". Before I did that it would start on a second attempt only every now and then. I'll try to hook up tach wire when it gets warmer. The reason I gave only 3 stars is there's some bugs. Remote went crazy once. It would start the engine every day at a certain time. I never set up scheduled start but made sure it is disabled, it didn't help. Removing the battery from remote and installing it back cured it. Once I thought I put it into valet mode. It was confirmed by a sign on remote LCD. Remote start was still enabled though so had to do it again. Was not able to enable starting the engine when it gets colder than a predefined threshold. Did everything according to manual and tech support, it just won't start. Maybe I'll try to send it to ScyTek when winter is over. Right now ability to start the car is more important than this minor bug. Temperature sensor doesn't seem to be very accurate. It was showing once 8 when it was more like 16. One other thing to mention is that product shipped was "DBP" version. One reason I went for ScyTek was because it is positioned as DIY friendly. Well, DBP manual says warranty is voided unless installed by an authorized dealer. It is not mentioned anywhere in the Amazon product description it is DBP model though.

3Cheap but works  Dec 28, 2009 By J. Brand "jerk"
I no longer have the car I installed this in, but I still hear the system working. A neighbor bought the car. I know it has been in for a year. Not sure how long it will last.

Pros:
Inexpensive
Good features(I like the inside temp feature, and 2-way feedback)
Good range
Installation- not TOO terrible!(had to buy a starter adapter harness and some relays)

Cons:
Cheaply made('carbon fiber' is just painted design)
I suspect there isn't much customer support
